The Prose Edda on Fenrir
The Younger Edda: > Chapter Ix. > Loke And His Offspring.
attestation: The asas made two fetters: Lading, which Fenrir burst easily, and Drome, which he shattered so thoroughly it became a proverb
"Since then it has been held as a proverb, "to get loose out of Lading" or "to dash out of Drome," whenever anything is extraordinarily hard."
attestation: The wolf was bound on the island Lyngve in lake Amsvartner, with a sword gagging him -- its saliva forms the river Von
"they put a sword in his mouth, in such a manner that the hilt stood in his lower jaw and the point in the upper, that is his gag. He howls terribly, and the saliva which runs from his mouth forms a river called Von."
attestation: The wolf will lie bound until Ragnarok
"There he will lie until Ragnarok."
attestation: The gods would not kill the wolf because they would not stain their holy peace-stead with his blood, despite knowing he would become Odin's bane
"So great respect have the gods for their holiness and peace-stead, that they would not stain them with the blood of the wolf, though prophecies foretell that he must become the bane of Odin."
The Younger Edda: > Chapter Xvii. > Regeneration.
- attestation: The verse prophesies the sun's daughter is born before Fenrir destroys the sun, and she rides her mother's course when the gods are dead
"A daughter Is born of the sun Ere Fenrer takes her. In her mother's course When the gods are dead This maid shall ride."
