  "This I judge,' said Harek, 'that thou wouldst not deem it to be well, if thou, O king, heardest every one's words, what men say when speaking their minds freely at home, how they think that it is a tyranny thou exercisest over all people."

  "Hildirida's sons had been that winter with king Harold, and in their company twelve men of their own household and neighbours."

• attestation: The brothers continually accused Thorolf of withholding Finn tribute from the king

  "The brothers were often talking with the king, and they still spoke in the same way of Thorolf."

• attribution: Harek asked the king whether he was satisfied with the Finn tribute Thorolf sent, implying it was deficient

  "Harek asked: 'Didst thou like well, O king, the Finns' tribute which Thorolf sent thee?'"

• attribution: Harek told the king he should consider the usual size of the Finn tribute to see how much Thorolf had been keeping

  "It is well, O king,' said Harek, 'that thou hast considered how large a tribute should usually come from Finmark, because thus thou knowest how much thou losest, if Thorolf waste all the tribute before thee."

• attribution: Harek claimed they collected tribute with thirty men but brought less because the Finns hid their goods

  "Last winter we were in Finmark with thirty men, as has been the wont of thy stewards heretofore. And this tribute we got, as thou seest."
