Victor Rydberg
Swedish scholar whose Teutonic Mythology placed Saxo's mythology on a fresh footing.
Victor Rydberg was a Swedish scholar whose work on Norse mythology received high praise. The Gesta Danorum describes him as the commentator who engaged with Saxo's mythology with the greatest success, noting that "no one has commented upon Saxo's mythology with such brilliancy, such minute consideration, and such success as the Swedish scholar, Victor Rydberg" (Gesta Danorum, Saxo's Mythology). His Teutonic Mythology, cited from the English version by Rasmus B. Anderson published in 1889, is credited with placing Saxo's mythology "on a fresh footing" (Gesta Danorum, Saxo's Mythology).
Victor Rydberg is the author of Teutonic Mythology (Gesta Danorum, Saxo's Mythology).
