Ulfius
Noble knight serving Uther Pendragon, who publicly impeaches Queen Igraine for concealing Arthur's parentage.
Sir Ulfius is a noble knight in Le Morte d'Arthur, attested across 10 citations in five chapters of Book I. He serves as a loyal counsellor and warrior to Uther Pendragon, and later as a fierce advocate for dynastic truth at Arthur's court.
When Uther falls sick with desire for Igraine, Ulfius approaches the king and asks why he is ill, then promises to seek Merlin: "I shall seek Merlin, and he shall do you remedy, that your heart shall be pleased" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book I, Chapter I). He undertakes that "there shall be nothing reasonable but thou shalt have thy desire" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book I, Chapter I) and entrusts the entreaty between Uther and Igraine after the Duke's death, so that "by the entreaty at the last the king and she met together" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book I, Chapter II).
In battle, Ulfius proves himself formidable. He and Sir Brastias "did great deeds of arms" in Uther's final battle against the Northern forces (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book I, Chapter IV). When the eleven kings attack Arthur's small fellowship, Ulfius's horse is slain under him, "but he did marvellously well on foot" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book I, Chapter XIV).
His most dramatic moment comes when he publicly impeaches Queen Igraine of treason, calling her "the falsest lady of the world, and the most traitress unto the king's person" for concealing Arthur's parentage (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book I, Chapter XXI). Igraine defends herself by revealing that Merlin took the child and that she did not know Uther was the one who came to Tintagel "in the likeness of my lord, that was dead three hours to-fore" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book I, Chapter XXI).
