Trian is a knight in the British tradition attested in Le Morte d'Arthur, where he appears in a single episode jousting with King Mark. When Mark is shamed into combat, he "feutred his spear, and hurtled to Sir Trian, and either brake their spears all to pieces, and passed through anon" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book X, Ch. IX). Trian then sends Mark another spear for a second joust, "but in no wise he would not joust no more" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book X, Ch. IX), presenting Mark's reluctance in contrast to Trian's willingness.
