Thor Haklang was a berserk who fell during the decisive battle in Hafersfjord, one of the most significant engagements in Norwegian history. The Heimskringla preserves his death in verse: "Fierce was the shock, and loud the clang / Of shields, until the fierce Haklang, / The foeman's famous berserk, fell" (Heimskringla, Ch. 19 Battle In Hafersfjord). After Haklang's death, Kjotve the Rich fled to the island rocks for shelter, marking a turning point in the engagement.
Thor Haklang is connected to Kjotve the Rich and fought at Hafersfjord alongside forces from Rogaland, Agder, and Hordaland.
