Swein Asleifson
Swein Asleifson is attested in the Orkneyinga Saga as "a notable leader at that time in the Islands, and the last and greatest of the Orkney vikings" .
Swein Asleifson is attested in the Orkneyinga Saga as "a notable leader at that time in the Islands, and the last and greatest of the Orkney vikings" (The Orkneyinga Saga, The Earldom in the Norse Line). He captured Earl Paul and carried him off by ship, landing him on the southern shore of the Moray Firth. Swein delivered Paul into the keeping of Maddad, Earl of Athole, who was married to Margaret, a sister of Earl Paul. Paul never returned to the Orkneys (The Orkneyinga Saga, The Earldom in the Norse Line).
Swein Asleifson is connected to Paul as the captor who removed him from the Orkneys. He is linked to Maddad as the recipient of his prisoner, and to Margaret through her role as Paul's sister and Maddad's wife. He is also associated with Orkney, Erlend, Harald, and Eystein through the broader saga network.
