At daybreak, crew members who had previously traveled in the region identified the coast of Sunnmore, noting an island called Haramarsey with a large settlement nearby (Grettir's Saga, Chapter XVII). The ship subsequently struck a rock at night and sank near Sunnmore (Grettir's Saga, Chapter XVII), making the district the setting for a significant shipwreck episode in the saga.
