Simon is a bonde (farmer) attested in the Heimskringla who figures in the birth narrative of Hakon Herdebreid. After King Sigurd's visit to Simon's household, "the bonde Simon came to know what the object of the king's visit had been" and took special care of the servant-girl Thora thereafter (Heimskringla, Chapter 18). Simon's perceptiveness in recognizing the royal purpose and his subsequent guardianship of Thora place him as a minor but significant figure in the chain of events leading to Hakon's birth.

Simon is connected to King Sigurd as the bonde who hosted the king, to Thora as her protector, and to Simon Thorbergson, Onund, and Andreas through the saga's kinship networks. He is associated with Skaane and Viken geographically.
