Pellounes
Old knight and father of Sir Persides who hosts Tristram and reports on the Castle of Maidens tournament.
Sir Pellounes is an old knight attested in Le Morte d'Arthur who hosts Sir Tristram and provides narrative context for the tournament at the Castle of Maidens. The text introduces him as the father of Sir Persides: "this old knight's name was Sir Pellounes, and he told of the great tournament that should be at the Castle of Maidens" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book IX, Ch. XXVI). When news arrives that his son has returned, Pellounes "held up his hands and thanked God of his coming home" after a two-year absence, for "Sir Pellounes told Sir Tristram that in two years he had not seen his son, Sir Persides" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book IX, Ch. XXVI). A squire later reports to Pellounes, "that was lord of that castle, that a knight with a black shield had smitten down thirteen knights" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book IX, Ch. XXVII).
