Mar appears in the Eyrbyggja Saga in a confrontation between Snorri the Priest and Biorn. Mar abandoned his attack on Biorn because Biorn's positioning threatened immediate harm to Snorri — he "let his hands fall" when he judged that Biorn would do Snorri a mischief if the peace were broken (Eyrbyggja Saga, Chapter 47, Of Thorod Scat-Catcher and Snorri and Biorn).

The Eyrbyggja Saga provides a single attestation for Mar in a moment of tactical restraint. The text captures the split-second calculation of violence: Mar was ready to strike but recognized that any action against Biorn would endanger Snorri before it could protect him. The decision to stand down required both combat awareness and loyalty (Eyrbyggja Saga, Chapter 47).
