Lile
Lady of Avelion who provided the enchanted sword drawn by Balin in Le Morte d'Arthur.
The Lady Lile of Avelion is attested in Le Morte d'Arthur as the orchestrator of the enchanted sword that Balin draws. A false damosel "went to the Lady Lile of Avelion, and besought her of help, to be avenged on her own brother" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book II, Ch. IV). Lile provided the sword, having arranged "that there should no man pull it out of the sheath but if he be one of the best knights of this realm, and he should be hard and full of prowess, and with that sword he should slay her brother" (Le Morte d'Arthur, Book II, Ch. V). The enchantment thus serves a private vengeance wrapped in the appearance of a chivalric test.
