King Onund is attested in the Heimskringla as a ruler allied with King Olaf against King Canute. When Canute's forces approached, "King Onund observed this he ordered, as soon as the day dawned, to sound the signal for a House-thing; and the whole people went on shore, and the Thing sat down" (Heimskringla, 161. King Olaf And King Onund's Plans). The passage presents Onund as a deliberate leader who responded to Canute's advance by calling his forces to council rather than retreating.

King Onund was allied with King Olaf and was located near Barvik (Heimskringla).
