Eirik Odson is attested in the Heimskringla as the author of a historical work called Hryggjarstykke (Heimskringla, Sigurd Slembe Taken Prisoner). Snorri records that Eirik "afterwards wrote these relations in a book" covering the events surrounding Harald Gille and his sons, Magnus the Blind, and Sigurd Slembidjakn, up to their deaths (Heimskringla, Sigurd Slembe Taken Prisoner). His sources included Hakon Mage, the lendermen of Harald's sons, and eyewitnesses.
